Description
I was visiting friends and family in Minnesota recently, and in the town I was staying there was a rookery of snowy egrets. One late afternoon I decided to go out and capture a few images of the beautiful white birds. At one point in my shoot, I saw an egret land among several other ones, and at first glance I thought that maybe the birds were fighting, as they all seemed to be crawling all over each other to the point of even standing on each other's heads. Beaks seemed to be used to try to hurt the others, but then I realized what I was watching was an adult feeding some semi-adults who still depended on the adult for at least some of their food, perhaps all of it. Finally there were only two birds, as the others moved away. I was able to capture this image of them with their wings outstretched, balancing precariously on their branches, as the adult fed the younger one.
